Style: top 10 ways to be fashionable on a budget

I have a secret for you…I am not that fashionable.  30 years old and I get dressed and in the mirror some lady looks at me…and she looks like a mommy.  Even in going out clothes, dancing in the club, I look at myself and see Mommy. I am a nurse.  Often times you can find me at work, tired, so no contacts, just freshfaced, glasses, pony tail and scrubs.  I joke about my lack of fashion sense.  So every so often, I go to my secret store, where everything is sold…dirt cheap.  I buy an entire new weardrobe down to bra and panties.  My store is Conway.  Based in NY, everyone walks around with their pink bags.  I found one down in Philly and was in heaven.

Here are some of my tips:

1- Dress age appropriate-Yes I am 30 but I am also a mom of 2.  I am a pediatric nurse.  Imagine if I was in Walmart with my halter top and daisy dukes on and ran into my conservative client’s parents.  They have only seen  me in scrubs.  Same goes for the kids kindergarten teacher, principal…

2-Dress for comfort.  Yes we are mommies but that doesn’t mean sweatsuits for life.

3-Ballet flats.  Easy to put on, look good with everything, inexpensive.

4-Shop clearance and watch for coupons.  I recenlty vlogged about a deal at Target when I bought 5 boxes of Special K cereal bars, used coupons, got a $5gc and got a swimsuit for free.

5-Buy accessories at yard sales, flea markets and consignment shops.

6-If you see something a celebrity has, make it yourself.  In the land of YouTube, you can learn anything.

7-Host a clothing swap.  For the great price of free, you can add new pieces and get rid of clutter.

8-Listia.com-another site to bid on free items.  I recently stalked a lot of scarfs.  I didn’t win but it was listed with free shipping.

9. Shop online, add items to your cart and wait a while to buy.  DF wanted a brand new Ecco jacket.  Macy’s and Amazon didn’t have it.  We checked the outlet.  I told him to go on the website and ad it to the cart.  A few days later they emailed him a code for 20% off.

10. Shop smart-if you are at Kmart and you see winter coats for 90% off, buy 1.  Even if you don’t wear it the next year, you can donate it, or resell it.  End of the season clearance also makes shopping for young children easier.
